Poor Mr. Pilot!

Poor Mr. Pilot, he has had some adventure this week. Tuesday night as Mr. Pilot finished up spraying crops, he jumped down from his airplane after he landed, and snagged his wedding ring on the screw on the door of his plane. The weight of his body and momentum was too much for his ring to handle, the screw pulled his ring flat over/into his finger. Oooouch! He ran to his parent's shop and grabbed some pliers and rounded out his ring again so he could get the circulation back. Thankfully his mom, (who used to be a nurse) had the presence of mind to ice up his finger really good, keep his arm elevated and rushed him to the ER--45 minutes away!
Once there, a student doctor, took off the ring with a saw thingieWITHOUT pain meds! Mr. Pilot said it was the worst pain he has ever endured! He has a high pain tolerance, so that is saying a lot! Thankfully a kind nurse, gave him pain meds through an IV after that ordeal and he was feeling pretty good.
A hand surgeon was brought in to stitch up Mr. Pilot and said he was surprised he didn't have to amputate it, due to the damage done to his finger. One section of his finger was still intact which allowed blood flow to his finger. After getting bandaged up and given pain meds for the rest of the week, Mr. Pilot was sent home to recover. His mom got him fed, took him home and made sure he got his pain meds throughout the night. Not much keeps Mr. Pilot down, but he made himself rest yesterday. Today was a different story, he was antsy to get up and be up and at 'em!
His mom bandaged all of his fingers together so he could use his hand without messing up his finger too badly. He was out working on his plane in no time.
I just got a call from him and he's not feeling so well now. Maybe a little too much activity today?
Tomorrow we drive in to see another hand surgeon to look over his finger to make sure everything is looking okay. Hopefully he says all is well and sends him home to REST!
Exciting times living with Mr. Pilot man! :)

  1. I am so glad he didn't loose that ring finger. Will you be able to use the wedding ring again after it is healed up or does it need to be replaced? Poor Mr Pilot!

  2. The ring is cut up and misshapen. So we will have to find a new one. But no more wearing it while he works! He said maybe he should just get one tattooed on. ;)
